Bassmint Productions demos featuring Eminem

by CultureOfNone on June 17, 2008

A very amusing entry here from the demo tape bin. This early ’90s ensemble goes by the name Bassmint Productions, and two lyrical giants share respective sides of this home-dubbed cassette. Chaos Kid and M&M (Eminem) are their MC identities, and the audio we’ve rescued from this ailing reel deserves a kind listen. Quite a lively bunch here: the real treat to my ears is the wild-jazzy-futuristic turntable wizardry of DJ Butterfingers. Production is credited to Manix… who knows where these cats are now?

I have an original master tape of bassmint productions. There are 3 M&M songs and 2 Chaos Kid songs on it. None of these songs leaked because the whole cassette was never posted. Only a picture of the insert was leaked to the internet about 6-7 years back. The M&M songs are smoke crack on the mic, passing out concussions, and don’t chew with your mouth full. they are actually pretty good songs if you ask me. I wish i coul find an original steppin onto the scene tape…

Thanks for checking out the site, Joe. If you have original, rare stuff that hasn’t been shared online, I would advise you to make some audio files or YouTube vids and let others hear it. Culture Of None has a long-time credo of believing that rare or unreleased recordings deserve to be shared…they do very little good sitting in someone’s collection. If something was worth creating; it deserves to reach the ears of potential fans.

Culture Of None,

Thanks for your reply. I agree with your insight about sharing the tracks. I know there are millions of eminem fans that like to track down all of his earlier works and see how much he has prospered as an artist from his beginning days. But on the other hand, you have to see it from my point of view. I am a rare memoribilia collector. I have money invested in this cassette that has these songs. Due to bootlegging, my tapes rarity jeopardizes itself because once the tracks leak for everyone to have, the tape is almost worthless because anyone can dub a tape with released tracks. Being these track are not leaked, the item has some authenticity. I plan on getting them onto mp3 format, but whether or not I will leak them is entirely up to me.

the tracklisting on the bassmint tape i got is as follows:

Smoke Crack On The Mic (m&m)
Passing Out Concussions (m&m)
Dont Chew With Your Mouth Full (m&m)

Change The Nation (chaos kid)
Stay In The Darkness (chaos kid)
Heaven Only Knows (chaos kid)

and there are also 3 random beats and a 3 bassmint skits chaos kid and eminem did on it. I never heard anything about it otherwise, but I know it has to be authentic being none of these songs leaked to the internet.

I spoke to Chaos Kid the other day regarding this tape…even HIS memory of its history and contents is hazy. He’ll be happy to know the song titles; we’ll see what he has to say.

i have been trying to get ahold of chaos kid about this tae myself. i sent a message to his myspace but he has not returned the message. i have no other way to contact him other than that. i have many questions reguarding it and would love to get some info on it. my email address is joey16pagley@hotmail.com so if he can send me an email about it i would be really greatful. there is an image of an insert of this tape on the internet, but i feel that the person who posted the image made it himself and i have reasonable doubt that it is a fake insert, being mike ruby’s name is spelled wrong, ‘change the nation’ says ‘hange the station’ on the insert which is wrong, and ‘heaven only knows’ is not listed on the insert. i believe it to be fake. but i know my tape has to be legit, especially when none of its content leaked. i know if someone had a part of my childhood i would want to talk about it to the person who owned it. hopefully he is a decent person and will communicate with me about it.

i finally found it! i have made the deal and i should be recieving my “steppin onto the scene” bassmint tape soon, that is – the tape that started this whole blog. the exciting part about that is that my tape will have the unleaked song ‘under new management’ on it! that is the very song that miguel was asking about. once i have confirmation that the tape is legit, i will let you know culture of none community.
