Chasers Ready. (demos 1998-2002)

by CultureOfNone on August 9, 2009

chasersSoutheastern Michigan had two overwhelming musical trends in the early to mid ’90s.   One of those trends - ska – was a thoroughly unusual phenomenon which I’ll save for another post.

The other major movement that virtually defined the Detroit scene -  in those days  – was the whole  ‘indie/emo’ genre.  Swarms of kids in thrift store-purchased vintage clothes, wallet chains, granny glasses, cardigan sweaters.  Every band carefully disguised their Sunny Day Real Estate worship, as if all of the communal “emo-ness” was a spontaneous, inspired explosion of collective originality and brilliance.

Which it may actually have been:  those were strange days.

This particular gem is one of those lost relics from the immediate aftermath of that era.  My understanding – per conversation with Chasers Ready axe- wielder Eric Robitaille is that the disc is essentially a complete discography.

No song titles, sorry. Get ready to rock:

  1. Culture Of None (Truly Heartfelt Productions) has been building a library of recorded music and audio product since 1994, with archival and historical reference as a prevailing ambition, with no commercial support or funding. We really hope that changes in the very near future: it can only lead to bigger and better things for all parties involved.
  2. The digital media which comprises the Culture Of None web presence is an invitation and encouragement to explore the associated tangible ventures related to being a music consumer. Our vision is to celebrate the nostalgic, revive the unsuccessful, illuminate the timely, and consistently re-invent the future of that mysterious beast historically referred to with Aristotelian vigor as "the music industry".
