plain ‘The Behavior Issue ep’ (1998)

Back in 1996 or so, I would regularly see ‘plain’ stickers on sign posts, railings, and walls all over the Metro Detroit area. For what it’s worth, I will certainly admit that their DIY/grassroots marketing was successful in imprinting the band’s name in my mind…even if it’s now a mere thirteen years later that I’m getting around to listening to their stuff.

Plain offers up more of that trademark indie/emo flavour that Michigan was overflowing with in the mid to late ’90s.  This disc was produced by Tim Patalan, whose involved history with soundsmithing has made  lasting impressions with local and national ears.  I’m discovering as I write this that his work is evident on We Are The Fury’s ‘Venus’, which I’ve been enjoying quite a bit lately.

On the flipside – as you can guess – a band called “plain” was not well equipped for the search engines of the internet era, and I was slightly surprised to find little evidence of their old fanbase sharing this obscure but memorable  EP.  Even with members’ names included in the googling, the most informative link was this more recent (but still very local) musical project called Rev.

Well, guys…at least you have a fan here at Culture Of None:

Culture Of None (Truly Heartfelt Productions) has been building a library of recorded music and audio product since 1994, with archival and historical reference as a prevailing ambition, with no commercial support or funding. We really hope that changes in the very near future: it can only lead to bigger and better things for all parties involved.
