Kind Of Like Spitting ‘blue EP’ (1998)

kind of like spitting 'blue ep' (1998)

I’ve owned this one for quite some time…and for whatever reason, I just figured that most KOLS fans had already heard it.

It’s a rather humble and endearing affair – the disc has an ink/paint logo stamp on the label side of the CD-r, and the little “photo” of Ben Barnett’s childhood is a color laser print, cut and glued to the blue construction-paper cover.  Photocopied lyrics are on a folded paper insert.  Catalog # is HUSH 007.

But it is simply awesome to listen to.   Just heartfelt sonic brilliance.

KOLS fans seem to be a dedicated bunch:  they adored Kind Of Like Spitting, they were giddy when the ‘Worker Bee’ demos were revealed…and they’ve kept close watch on Ben’s myspace page (which beguilingly no longer ends with the iconic URL ‘wehaveacrushonamygoodman’).

Devotees may’ve even trekked up to Seattle to catch a School of Rock show (Barnett’s current residence as an instructor is delightful news) and the anticipatory leak of his ‘Songs About Zombies and Trust Issues‘ last year confirms that loyal audience.

I myself remain a somewhat quiet fan, always ready to mention his wealth of work…and respectfully tipping my Metal hat to his youth as a guitar student of Forbidden, and the dedication of ‘Bridges Worth Burning‘ to the late Chuck Shuldiner.

Anyway…here’s the ‘Blue EP

  1. Shuffle, Kick, Hum a Tune
  2. The Thing About Distance
  3. March 25, 1998
  4. What A Wonderful Puddle
  5. Just Broken
  6. Rowing A Dead Horse
  7. Through The Sound of Crashing Pins
  8. Mine
