I really wish i knew more about this six-piece ensemble from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan – they had a fragile, dreamlike, and textured sound that reminds me (oddly) of a more “emo” Tribes With Knives. The usual list of comparisons would be fair (Promise Ring, American Football, Cap’n Jazz, etc), yet there was something about the Michigan indie bands in the mid- to late-90s that held such yearning and melancholy. The lyrics are wistful and visual, the melodies alternately sad and indifferent, and through all the delicate song-structures there’s air and *space* that floats around the plucky guitars and keys.
I only knew of this disc from its listing in the Initial Records catalog from ’99 or so, and only recently managed to buy it on eBay. The most informative link turned up by google is a commemorative myspace page, which sadly doesn’t appear to have been updated since 4/9/2008, as of this post. I’d even tried to contact them (or whoever) via myspace to buy the music directly, but no reply. So, here’s the masterpiece for you to check out – since this thing needs to reach its audience:
call it in the air ‘just a morning thought’ (1998)

Thanks so much for listening to the music. I think we all feel amazed that the basement visions we had and made are still extant. Thank you for finding them and for tracking down the CD on EBay. You are the type of music fan that albums are continually written in hope of finding.

I realize this post is quite old. But thanks to my sister, we found it. Better late than never, right?
Thank you for the kind words. The making of this record is at the heart of so many fond memories. The fact that it’s still finding new listeners boggles my mind. So thank you to all that have taken the time to give it a listen.
