Having finished four full-length albums using the band name Teenagers Live Forever, it made sense at the time to loosen the boundaries and explore some new audio territory. I had just begun to work with a Korg D-8 digital multi-tracker and the Boss Dr. Sample SP-202, and used mostly very early experiments for these songs. I’d pretty much been nudged into digital at that point by Snafu (Chaos Kid) of Bassmint Productions fame, and – looking back – it seems outlandish (esp. to me) that I was sluggish to make the dive into sample loops and sequencing.
The resulting work is a delirious mix of the ambitious analog 4-track tape stuff I had been producing, plus a solid batch of (not so) lo-fi digitally crafted songs – all rather chilly and bleak in tone. These were songs about breaking up, right? Apologies in advance to Kate Bush: the song title intends to communicate love was being made while ‘Hounds of Love’ was in the CD player, but the giddy double entendre begged immortalization on my product. And, yes, I was a bit crazy at the time, so kindly grant me some wiggle room as a sonic artist – it may not sound like most music you’ve heard.
Here’s the download link. It’s a .RAR file, unpack it to your My Music folder or portable music device, then turn up the volume and rock out:
