Jazz at The Downstairs Club – THE REVELERS

by CultureOfNone on January 7, 2009

I honestly haven’t even had a chance to spin this one yet, but I’m thrilled to have found it.

The catalog no. is SA 60, it’s a product of “the Rondo Record Corporation; Union City, New Jersey”,
and I’m guessing it to be late ’50s/early ’60s vinyl. Tracks include “Isn’t it Romantic”, “Almost Like Being in Love”, “C’est Magnifique”, etc.

Here’s what the back of the jacket has to say:

There are various kinds of jazz – the kind that we hear today in the night clubs by the small groups is exemplified by this record.

In stereo, with the separation, naturally the groups sound more intimate and yet larger – a contradictory statement, but when you hear a record you know the feeling. Stereophonic music fills the room for dancing and the soloist on one mike and the accompaniment on the other lend the feeling of intimacy. This type of jazz is heard in every major city of the world today and wherever there are young people you will find jazz.

The type of jazz on this record is the simple, unsophisticated jazz, that appeals not only to young people but also to people who like quiet excitement in their music.
