Mind Funk ‘Touch You EP’ (1991)

by CultureOfNone on April 29, 2009

Mind Funk was one of the craziest things to happen in the world of metal, and they actually managed to turn their unusual formula of talents into a distinctive and memorable sound.

It was the vocalist from Uniform Choice joining with Celtic Frost’s drummer and guitarists from Nirvana, Chemical Waste, and M.O.D. with a major label debut. The simple idea of a gaggle of independent/underground metal artists getting signed to Epic (at that time) was enough to boggle me.

It might be imagined that this ensemble would produce something akin to the sum of their influences, but I believe that Mind Funk had more to do with their collective personalities, especially with the two Fabios of metal (Patrick Dubar & Reed St. Mark) on board.

Their third and final disc ‘People Who Fell From the Sky’ (1995), was basically impossible to find, and I ended up selling mine on eBay for a goodly sum.

I was very fortunate, however, to have come across this rare 4-song EP which includes two non-album tracks and an alternate version of “Touch You” which belongs right alongside Soundgarden’s “Big Dumb Sex” in terms of lyrical silliness.
